❛ Escritos nas poeiras do vento ❜ is a self—published poetry book written, designed and published by Vítor de Matos.
The book was composed entirely using the foss software scribus.
Between my nostalgia for the look and feel of letterpress type and my close—fitted budget, I was stirred into giving this project a proper “texture” and organic feel.
The cover is inspired by its somehow recurring subjects and was made up from an old wrinkled sheet of brown paper which was scanned, discoloured and then tinted back in scribus.
Being a perfect bound paperback, thus not having end papers or dust jacket, I used ink on the back of the cover and let ink bleed out of the pages to obtain a tinted fore-edge.
Text block was typeset in a quiet modern humanist typeface whilst headings were dramatically set in uppercase big sized worn woodcut like typeface.
The book was thought from the beginning to the end as an object, so every part of it has to speak out for what it is. Every part of it went through the printer.
I’ve also designed a bookmarker to present the reader.
